The definition of viewing angle in the liquid crystal industry is the angle when the contrast ratio of the display is greater than 10. When viewed at an angle perpendicular to the display screen, the contrast ratio of a TN-type display is usually 600:1, and that of an IPS-type display is 1200:1.
The viewing angle of a display is measured from an axis perpendicular to the display to four directions, the range of three-dimensional angles is called the viewing frustum.
Test data is generally made into the following view
Generally, the viewing angle of an IPS display is much better than that of a TN display. Two common display parameters are listed for your reference.
the view angle of 1.7-inch TN tft display
the view angle of 4.3-inch IPS tft display
Viewing angles for different types of displays
Due to the different structures of LCD displays, some displays will have obvious differences when the viewing angle changes. For example, TN-type displays will have grayscale inversion at the worst viewing angles, which is manifested as abnormal sudden changes in display color.

The IPS display does not have this problem, and can better take into account all viewing angles, and can have good performance in all directions. VA and MVA type displays have wide viewing angles, but because they are more complex to manufacture than IPS displays and cannot achieve high resolution in a small size, they are often used on TVs and computer monitors.
What view angle does my module require?
If the application requires a high viewing angle display, please choose an IPS type display. If you need a large size (20 inches or more) display, you can also consider an MVA type display. And if you need to add a touch screen, please choose optical bonding and surface treatment of the cover lens to ensure that the viewing angle is not affected.
If you do not have high requirements for viewing angles, or if you have a fixed viewing angle, a TN monitor may be your best choice. TN monitors have high response speed and relatively low prices, but you need to pay attention to the grayscale when using TN monitors. Inverted Viewing Angle, which is the worst viewing angle for TN displays, should be placed in an unused orientation.
Another solution is to use viewing angle compensation polarizers. The compensation film, also known as phase difference film, can reduce light leakage, greatly improve contrast, and improve grayscale inversion problems. Phase difference film is also used on AMOLED to improve the viewing angle and achieve better display effects. However, it is worth noting that the price of polarizers with phase compensation film is relatively high and the supply is small. Due to tft display manufacturing With the improvement of technology, the price difference between IPS display and TN display is continuously narrowing. If there is no special need, it is recommended that you choose IPS display.
