industrial tft display requirements

 > Industrial TFT Display Requirements

TFT display is the mainstream display technology, which is widely used in our daily life, such as mobile phones, smart watches, home appliances and automation equipment. Different products are used in different environments. For example, the mobile phone we are most familiar with needs to work in the temperature range of -20℃~70℃ and needs IP67 waterproof. Automation equipment needs to work in a harsher environment, and the display screens of consumers electronics cannot meet such requirements. It is very important to understand your needs and make corresponding designs.

1.Product reliability

The requirements of consumers electronics are quite different from those of industrial display modules. Consumer electronic products require a fast production cycle and competitive prices, and different design orientations make consumer electronic display screens not stable in industrial environments. Display modules for industrial applications will use for a very long time, often as long as a decade or more. Just imagine, it would be a pity that a device with hundreds of thousands or millions of devices cannot be used just because of the problem of tft display.

If the equipment cannot be used due to the EOL of the display screen, we provide customized services for the EOL display screen. Close cooperation with BOE, Tianma Microelectronics, Innolux, AUO and other lcd panel manufacturers ensures that Harmony Optoelectronics can produce almost all resolutions and size tft display, only need a low cost to get your equipment back to normal operation.

2.Wider range of operating temperature

The display screen of consumer electronics needs to work in the range of -20℃~70℃, which is enough for our daily life. But this is not enough for industrial displays. Industrial display screens may be placed in cold outdoors or hot environments, and hot and cold environments that exceed design standards will have an impact on the display screen.

The cold will make the liquid crystal become viscous, the response time will slow down, and even the characteristics of the TFT will change under extremely low temperature, and the display screen will have abnormal display problems. Although the display will return to normal when the temperature rises, obviously this is not allowed.

High temperature will cause irreversible problems to the display screen, the optical film of LED backlight will shrink under high temperature, and black shadows and stripes will appear. In the high temperature state, the impurities in the liquid crystal will increase and affect the display, such as burn-in, and severe burn-in cannot be recovered.

There are two parameters related to the temperature of the display screen: storage temperature and working temperature, respectively indicating the storage temperature and working temperature that the display screen can adapt to. Selecting a monitor that matches the corresponding environment is the most suitable method. Current LCDs operate over a temperature range of -30 to 80°C.

3.Brightness

Displays for industrial applications need to support clear and precise viewing under a wide range of ambient light conditions. The typical luminance of a usual tft display is 250 to 320 cd/m2. But if you are outside at noon, you will not be able to see clearly at all. Displays operating at a minimum of 1000cd/m2 and higher are required to meet the requirements. Of course, higher brightness means higher power consumption, which also needs attention.

4.Contrast and Viewing Angle

Contrast and viewing angle are two important optical parameters of a display. Contrast is defined as the ratio of the brightness of a white screen to the brightness of a black screen. Contrast can be used to improve the readability of displays in high-brightness environments to a certain extent, but the effect is limited. The contrast ratio of TN-type displays is low, around 400:1, and the contrast ratio of IPS-type displays is higher. The contrast ratio of IPS displays using photo alignment technology can reach 1200:1. It will be easier to view high-contrast displays from a distance, and contrast do not add any power consumption.

The definition of the viewing angle is the angle with a contrast ratio greater than 10. The viewing angle only measures the contrast ratio, but does not measure the color coordinates, etc. so there will be image distortion and color shift when viewed from an angle. displays using IPS display mode, MVA display mode and FFS mode have better viewing angles without any color shift.

5.Mechanical testing

Industrial equipment is designed to have a long service life, and the corresponding requirements for mechanical tests such as vibration and drop are also high. Therefore special designs and materials are necessary. For example, the use of a metal frame can strengthen the mechanical strength of the tft display, and can effectively protect the lcd panel in the process of falling. The scratch-resistant optical film is used in the led backlight, and the optical film will not be scratched and white spots or white spots will appear during the process of falling or shaking.

There is a big difference between Industrial tft display and consumer display, and it needs to be specially designed according to specific needs, so as to ensure the stability allowed.
