In-Cell, On-Cell, OGS and GFF four different types of capacitive touch screen technologies.
summary
In-Cell, On-Cell, OGS and GFF are four mainstream touch technologies, among which in-cell is a new technology developed in the past 3 to 4 years, and the other three have been widely used in the market.
1.In-cell touch screen technology
In-Cell, On-Cell, OGS and GFF four different types of capacitive touch screen technologies.
The development of touch technology is also very rapid, which can be divided into resistive touch screen, capacitive touch screen, infrared touch screen and ultrasonic touch screen. Among them, the capacitive touch screen has been developed the most because of its sensitive touch and excellent performance. Commonly used capacitive touch screens can be divided into four types: in-cell, on-cell, OGS and GFF.
In-Cell Touch Screen Technology
In-Cell was first proposed by Synopsys to display and touch integrated technology, also known as TDDI (Touch and Display Driver Integration). This technology integrates the touch sensor into the LCD panel and adds a touch layer on the TFT side. The touch layer uses ITO as a material, so even if it is covered on the pixel electrode, the content can still be displayed. When the In-Cell display is working, because the tft lcd needs VGH and VGL (usually VGH is 8~12V, VGL is -8~-12V) voltage to turn on the TFT and charge the pixel electrode, these will have Large current noise, current noise will interfere with the work of the capacitive touch screen. So the display part and the touch part of the TDDI lcd display work separately. Adding a cover lens can achieve the same performance as the original complex structure, and the LCD display using TDDI technology is thinner and lighter. In addition to the AMOLED display, almost all mobile phones now use In-Cell technology.
On-Cell Touch Screen Technology
On-Cell technology is to manufacture the touch screen circuit on the CF substrate. The On-Cell touch circuit is manufactured after the tft display is completed. Because the tft display cannot withstand high temperature, On-Cell is a low-temperature coating ( ITO film layer) process, which limits the performance and application field of On-Cell touch technology. On-Cell can only realize 5-point touch at most, and On-Cell is usually applied in a size below 7inch.
OGS Touch Screen Technology
OGS (One Glass Solution) and On-Cell are two similar touch technologies. OGS makes the touch circuit on the cover lens. Since the cover lens is a glass substrate that can withstand higher temperatures, it belongs to the high-temperature coating (ITO film) process. The ITO film is denser than On-Cell, and because of the temperature it withstands High, OGS can support 10-point touch, OGS touch screen can also achieve better performance and larger size by using metal lap design.
GFF Touch Screen Technology
The above-mentioned In-Cell, On-Cell, and OGS touch technologies are characterized by simple structures, and the screens using these technologies are very thin and light. What about GFF technology?
GFF technology is the abbreviation of Cover Glass+touch sensor film+ touch sensor film. GFF is a very widely used touch technology, ranging from 0.96 inches to 32 inches, and can even support larger sizes. GFF uses touch sensor film to make touch circuits on a high-temperature resistant film, so the touch performance is excellent, and the size is not limited. Nowadays, most products except mobile phones use GFF touch screens.
Which of the four different types of capacitive touch screen technologies In-Cell, On-Cell, OGS and GFF is the best?
Each of these technologies has its own advantages and disadvantages, and the choice of which technology to use depends on which touch technology is more suitable for you.
- In-Cell technology: TDDI technology is a technology that has only matured in recent years. The display screen and driver IC used are different from ordinary display screens. If the lcd display you need is not equipped with this technology, then you cannot use it In-Cell technology. This is likely to happen because TDDI technology is mainly used in consumer electronics such as mobile phones and has little application in other fields. High manufacturing cost compared to other touch screen technologies. Since the touch sensor is integrated into the LCD panel itself, it is difficult to repair.
- On-Cell technology: On-Cell technology requires a professional factory to perform coating and etching on the already produced lcd screen. It requires high investment and professional personnel to complete this operation, if the demand is not large (1KK~2KK/year),This touch technology is not recommended.
- OGS (monolithic glass solution): OGS is a better choice for large size tft display products, and its structure is simple and to achieve a better viewing effect, but the development cost of OGS products is relatively high, suitable for products with large demand.
- GFF is the most used touch technology in all capacitive touch screens. The capacitive touch screen with GFF structure can match any size of tft display, and the development cost is low, and the touch accuracy and sensitivity are excellent. If you are choosing a capacitive touch screen, then the capacitive touch screen with GFF structure is your first choice.
There is no one “best” technology between In-Cell, On-Cell, and OGS, as the choice of technology depends on the specific requirements of the application.
